Pierre-Joseph Redouté, often referred to as the 'Raphael of Flowers', served as the official painter to Empress Josephine during her residency at the Château de la Malmaison. He is widely recognized as the most prominent botanical illustrator in history.

In the early 19th century, Empress Josephine's devotion to the arts extended to the realm of flower painting, with Redouté capturing numerous plants and flowers from the gardens of Château de la Malmaison. Among his most celebrated works produced under Josephine's patronage were his exquisite Roses.
